After a long hiatus I would like to announce my triumphant return from the depths of graduate school. Free from the bonds of problem sets and long hours in the lab I’m excited to, among other things, re-chill the fuck out in funkytown. Been thinking about who I would write about for my return but that was too much pressure so I’ve decided to just drop a giant smelly puddle of tracks all over your collective chests. Lather up.
Chilled out Louis armstrong, chopped and hip-hoped up
Got a little dose of bass for you. Been a strong supporter of Griz for a while now and he just dropped a pretty sweet remix of Behind Blue Eyes by the Who. Let’s just say it’s better better than the Limp Bizkit cover of the same song.. oh wait that was one of the biggest steaming piles of baby diarrhea to ever be considered music. Comparison irrelevant. Long live Griz, Fuck Fred.
My favorite track from the new Geisha Twins EP called ‘Dolla Dolla $$’. They sample Holidays by Miami Horror in the intro, probably my favorite song of all time that didn’t come from my childhood. Geisha Twins – Everythang Nice (Original Mix)
And finally two chiller tracks that Applecrisped showed me. Orange Sky is by a curious fellow who goes by the name Sample Jack… Serious points for the most hilarious artist name I’ve ever heard. Sample Jack – Orange Sky
Opiuo is probably my favorite discovery of 2011 and solely ignited my infatuation with the Australian funk scene. Just listen to his shit. You’ll see why. Anyways, I joined his mailing list (which can be done here) and he dropped this funky gem for free a few days ago. He’s also planning on releasing a full length album on March 13 of 2012 so watch out. If I’ve ever made a definitive statement since this blog started, seriously, watch the fuck out for that beast. Chairmann out.
Haven’t posted any disco in a while and Louis has been keeping busy over the summer. “Prick Stick”, one of my new favorites, adds a new twist to La Roche’s disco palette with glitchy beat repeat effects. The resulting sound is something not to be missed. Only a matter of time before everyone starts doing this.
The Bloody Beetroots recently released a bunch of new previews on their soundcloud. My favorite was definitely the Wu-Tang Clan remix, track is raw. Haven’t heard anything from the Italian duo in a while but apparently they have been hard at work. Hopefully this means that they are coming out with a new album soon. Keep an eye out.
