Ifan Dafydd is a relatively new producer on that future bass vibe. He’s been likened to James Blake in style, maybe because of the soulful pitch-shifted re-invigoration of R&B vocals, or the minimalist pretty synths coloring the empty space of the song. He also lived with James Blake in university, with Mount Kimbie not too far away, explaining the similarity in their “post-dubstep” feel, soulful vibes and stunning musicality. Either way, this song treehouse has had me down for days, and I can’t stop listening. Peep the music video too if ur tryna get all estranged-like.
Since I feel bad for getting you all down, let’s spice it up with some trap shit. I don’t know a whole bunch about the origins, but ‘trap’ seems to be a genre branching out of electronic bass music that incorporates a long-missed neo-gangster feel. For example:
