Alright here are some more singles to continue this earlier post. I want to note that one big characteristic seems to be this idea of obscure and hyper-processed sampling, which faltyDL talks about in this interview.
“I think the reason why we need to sample music is that we need to add depth to the song were making so it doesn’t sound like these freeze-dried taken-out-of-a-packet songs that are fabricated and sound plastic. You need to add some depth to it and when u add a sample you add the entire history of that song, the recording history of that song…it’s like a 5th generation cassette tape…there’s a real analogue depth to that sample that you can’t just create with a synth on a program…when you build your track with samples like these, it adds a depth, a warmth, that’s just really beautiful”
This seems like the same school of thought that gives Burial his atmospheric warm, deep, full, hypnotic sound. So here’s a song to honor that sweet quote from FaltyDL. Something that you can just get lost in 🙂
Egoless is probably one of my new favorites. Just strong production and such a variety of style. I’ll post three in order of immersive, dark garage, and chill fucking dub.
egoless – soulsteps
egoless – the wailers
Think, on the prettier mount kimbie side.
Think – If Only
Floating points, also a new face. He was featured on this great album with faltyDL, Boxcutter, and other similar dudes:
02. FLOATING POINTS – K&G Beat
Alright, this guy Blawan is COMING IN. He has a sweet fucking mix out that you need to start jamming to immediately, and 2 sweet tunes below, one of them a radiohead remix. Some future garage vibes.
Blawan-Getting me down
Balam Acab. Listen really close to the intro so that the drop consumes you the way it did to me
Koreless. Every time this song drops I get inexplicably happy. I’m not sure what else to say.
koreless – mpi
Looks like James Blake is already having a noticeable impact on some artists:
New Mount Kimbie Wooo!!
Finally, the Godhead Oceania put out some shit that even obscure genres were like WHAT THE FUCK to. Such sweet bass music.
