I’ve recently become obsessed with the 100 BPM range. This infatuation was sparked by a lot of Sebastian’s new work which captures a grooviness that I feel is not possible in the 120-130 range where I spend most of my time. However, bridging the gap between my two favorite ranges has proven difficult with moombahton, electronic’s bastard child that nobody likes, being the only established intermediary.
Alas, my problem is no more thanks to those lovable Auzzies from down under. A new sound (at least to me) has been developing in Melbourne led by guys like Nick Thayer and Opiuo. Their music is derivative of big beat and electro, slowed down to the 100-110 range. I still have no idea what people are calling this stuff but it definitely needs its own name. Fun, funky and brimming with character, I think I’m in love.
Ray Charles – Good Thymes (Opiuo Remixx)
A lot of you have heard Diplo’s “remix” of this classic. Listen to this one instead.

Thanks to AppleChrisp for most of these.
Sorry for the advert. Worth it I promise.
