I first heard “Glory Box” in high school while standing in line at a Chipotle. Despite the shitty speakers and ambient noise of the room I was captivated by the salacious singing style and porn groove bass line but I had no idea how to find the track and it remained anonymous for a number of years. Last week this elusive song played on Pandora and I immediately downloaded every version I could find. Below is the original and a remix cover by Eleze and Ryan Riback. The remix is a little too repetitive for me but the vocal break so money and perfect for a quick break in a high energy set for you DJs out there. Enjoy.
I don’t know how I deluded myself into thinking that linguistics would be an interesting distro class. Consequently, LING_250 has become my official bi-weekly blogging time so look for mass funkytownismyhood posts between 12:30 and 1:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
If your a music blog regular you probably have seen this track many times already but I gotta post for my favorite Sweedish duo. While I haven’t been as blown away by their most releases, Dada Life has stayed relevant with constant fan feedback and a series of often hilarious videos of their production escapades. They’ve amassed a huge fan base over the past two years and I’ve enjoyed watching their rise to fame. Check the new track on soundcloud below:

Tonight marks the premiere of my new radio show Danger Zone! Co-hosted by myself, The Chairman, and partner in crime, DJ Grand, the Danger Zone! will be 1.5 hours of live in the mix house, disco, and electro. DJ Grand and I used to have separate shows on WNUR’s Streetbeat but because he lives 10 feet away from me we would typically find sweet music then fight over who got to play it on their show. So now we’re combining forces for the showcasing of the weeks hottest tracks and ultimately the destruction of your subwoofer. Broadcasts will be weekly on WNURs Streetbeat Wednesday nights from 10:00PM – 11:30PM. Check it.

TJR (TJ Rozdilsky) is originally from Connecticut but decided to import his sound to Los Angeles just last year. Despite the plethora of distractions to be found in one of my favorite cities in the world, TRJ has been busy releasing banger after banger. He showcases an amazing range of material, from fidget to tech house and electro, the man’s a jack of a trades. He’s released collaborations, remixes, and original productions on multiple labels including: Potty Mouth, Fool’s Gold, InStereo, Jack Union, and Wearhouse. None of the following tracks are particularly new but this guy needs to be on your radar.
Louis La Roche is another impossibly young and talented producer. This UK native is signed to Ever After Records and has yet to release a track/remix that I haven’t been nuts about. His sound is always clean and funky exactly how I like it. Here are a few of my faves:
One of the nastiest electro producers out there, Wolfgang Gartner, will be tearing it up at the Mid along with Harvard Bass April 16th. If your anywhere near Chicago definitely check this out.
While Funkytownismyhood is mainly an EDM blog, every now and then I come across that track that I just have to post regardless of it’s genre. “Pussy” by Brazilian Girls was released on their self titled album back in 2005. The ridiculousness of the chorus is what initially drew me to this track but the entire package is very well put together. This gem randomly played on the drive down to Miami for spring break and I had it on repeat the rest of the trip. Good times.
