Disco

Quick little roundup for your weekend.  Kicking things off with Alison Valentine, this Moon Boots remix has already been heavily circulated throughout the interwebs but I’m a sucker for beautiful voices among other things.  Excellent work by both artists.

Another track from my favorite bloggers over at remix86.com, N8 ST9 remixed the classic 90s Dona Lewis track “I Love You Forever”.  No shame, I’m a nostalgic sap.

Kreap has been a big favorite at our blog and while he seems to be diving into more house-y stuff recently, it’s obvious he’s still got the funky fire within.  Great remix of this Shindu’s “All In My Fridge”

Shindu – All In My Fridge (Kreaps Cluster Funk Deathwish)

Msystem, watch out for this guy.  Walks the line between disco and electro like a champ.  Epic remix of Grum’s “Through the Night”.

Grum – Through The Night ( Msystem Remix )

And finally, I’m still on Blende’s “Fake Love”, the original is king but the Villa Remix is pretty boss as well.

Just finished recording a new mix and it was promptly taken down by those heartless bastards known as the soundcloud copyright bots.  Instead of jumping ship to another upload site I just made a short intro message and the mix slipped by.  Yes, 3 seconds of random audio is all it takes.  Take note oppressed DJs of the internet.

Anyways, I’m real pleased with how this turned out.  The entire thing is a 30 minute crescendo, starting off smooth and sensual and then building into that jackin disco shit that I love.  I will post some of the individual tracks in the near future – dealing with mastering and then soundcloud has been annoying and I can’t do anymore menial computer work today.  So for now, sit back and load this into your ear holes.

Breakbot, the short shorts wearing frenchman just dropped his first full length album earlier this week.  Probably one of the most unique artists on the infamous Ed Banger Records, “By Your Side” serves as an extension and fleshing out of his smooth and playful style.  A perfect release to keep summer going just a few more weeks.

This post is way late but the Geisha Twins sadly called it quits a few weeks ago.  In the fleeting year or so of their existence they cranked out an amazing number of tracks in a signature uplifting style.  One of the few groups that I never previewed before purchase or download – just get that gold onto my hard drive as fast as possible.

Michael announced on facebook that he was leaving for personal reasons and that the process had stopped being fun.  Zac, his other half, is still continuing making music through side projects called Groove City and Sebastian Scotch.  Both are pretty dormant right now in terms of content but I definitely plan on keeping them on my radar.

Here is a little collection of some of my favorites (there are so many!).  Thanks for everything boys – you will be missed sorely.

Geisha Twins – Promise Me

Geisha Twins – Everythang Nice (Original Mix)

Geisha Twins – Shake Dat Rump

Viceroy – No Ending (Geisha Twins #WINNING Remix)

Timo Juuti & Hector 87 – Cheap Bad Moves (Geisha Twins Remix)

Geisha Twins – Do You Feel The Same (Original Mix)

Blende just released a preview of their upcoming track called “Fake Love” set to release on Eskimo Records Sept 17.  I try to avoid posting tracks without download links but this is too funky to not share.  Instantly reminded me of Justice in their golden days – power piano and bizzy bass lines galore.

After a long hiatus I would like to announce my triumphant return from the depths of graduate school. Free from the bonds of problem sets and long hours in the lab I’m excited to, among other things, re-chill the fuck out in funkytown. Been thinking about who I would write about for my return but that was too much pressure so I’ve decided to just drop a giant smelly puddle of tracks all over your collective chests. Lather up.

Chilled out Louis armstrong, chopped and hip-hoped up

C2C – Mack The Knife (Tribute To Louis Armstrong)

Dutch Breakbot. Killin it with the toy piano.

Knight One – Onyx

You think you know smooth?

Jazzy Eyewear – Fantasy Island (Les Loups’ Ruffdraft Remix)

Not what we normally post.. her voice. damn.

Aluna George – You Know You Like It

Really enjoyable lyricism + muthafuckin Shook.

Capitol Cities – Kangaroo Court (Shook Remix)

Great edit by my boys Hey Champ.

Luther Vandross – Sugar & Spice (Hey Champ Edit)

Standard Disco Banger. Never heard of Tightshirt before but I dig their name and their music.

Tightshirt – Nocturnal Loop

Chill(er) remix of one of my favorite songs from basically the only electro artist that I give a damn about anymore.

Dilemn – Clapping (The Noisy Freaks Remix)

Not as interesting as the original but it serves as a great sample for 128 bpm sets.

James Blake – CMYK (eLDOKO Remix)

Serious Summer feel-goodery.

Les Loups – Side To Side (OHYEAH Remix)

Year of the lobster? You’re god damn right.

Pablo J & The Lobsterettes – Darling

The picture making reference to a tubular Tuesday is not a coincidence. Now that the weather is beautiful again, I felt it necessary to provide you with some feel-good tracks to bump on the beach. It should suprise no one, then, that I am starting this post off with a new track by Viceroy as it is his M.O. to craft songs that would be in the ideal soundtrack for an endless summer. For this release he is collaborating with another San Francisco disco duo you may know as WhiteNoize. Here is ‘Only Takes.’

Next we have the new track that BetatraXx released last week with Christina Perri entitled simply ‘Arms.’ Don’t let the simplicity of the name fool you though, this is more awesome work by Tim, and, living in LA, the man knows a little something about sunshine.

To round it out we have a recommendation by our friend Kreap, who is still awesome by the way. ‘Kind Grammar’ is a feel-good funky disco track from Rex The Tri∆ngle. Enjoy.

Kind Grammar
